Epson Stylus SX400
Posted on October 27th, 2009 at 9:38 amIn terms of performance the Epson Stylus SX400 is a minimalist package that offers adequate printing, scanning and copying, intended for light-duty use in a home or home office. It boasts a low price tag, compact size and the print quality is better than expected, but the SX400 is plagued with poor print speed. It claimed on the Specifications that the SX400 is capable of 34ppm but the closet we could get to this was 10ppm and this required printing is draft quality where the print is so faint it’s barely readable. Increasing the quality setting to normal reduces the speed further to yawn inspiring 4ppm. The SX400 also offers direct photo printing from a memory card or digital camera via the memory car slow and PictBridge connection, but bizarrely the best photo quality setting is not available when using this feature as it is when printing from a computer. The photo copier is another function that works with the need for a PC and although produces good quality copies it is also affected by the SX400 slow print speed. The running costs for the SX400 are pretty average for a printer in this price range with a set of Epson SX400 ink cartridges costing around £30 for genuine Epson ink. There are also cheaper alternatives available in the form of compatible printer ink cartridges and they cost half the price while still offering the same amount of page yields and print quality.
